Rites of passage is one of the unique rituals and handed down for thousands centuries of Red Dao ethnic community in Sapa (Lao Cai). In the framework of the annual Festival on the clouds, in Ta Van Commune, Sa Pa District this unique tradition has been replayed.
According to the conception of the Dao, rites of passage is a unique ceremony which has been handed down in the Red Dao Ethnic in Lao Cai for thousands centuries. The Dao acknowledge the Rites of Passage as an indispensable procedure for men. Only those who have been taken part in the Rites of Passage can be considered as mature men.
During the welcoming ceremony at the village gate, wizard(shaman) is wearing a red string of Red Dao people Trumpeter and worship drum are two dispensable sounds in honous granting ceremony The young men asking for being granted knight will get dressed traditional costume of Red Dao.
