LCP - From September to October, Mu Cang Chai (in Lao Cai province) enters its most beautiful season, as golden terraced fields shine brightly to welcome visitors to experience the Golden Season Festival 2025.

The highlight of this year’s Mu Cang Chai Golden Season Festival is an art program scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on August 30, 2025, at the mini-square in the center of Mu Cang Chai Commune. The festival will also feature product display booths, food stalls, and the “Colors of Mu Cang Chai” art photo exhibition, taking place from August 30 to the end of October 2025 at the Kim Noi Bridge entrance (along National Highway 32). The exhibition will showcase artworks capturing the beauty of nature, people, daily life, and the tourism potential and strengths of Mu Cang Chai Commune.
Other key activities include the music night in mid-September 2025, and the MU CANG CHAI ULTRA TRAIL marathon, attracting over 1,350 domestic and international athletes competing in four distances: 100km, 50km, 25km, and 15km.
Visitors to the Golden Season Festival can also take part in various contests such as: Khen (reed pipe) dance competition; Wax-resist cloth pattern-making competition; Banh giay (traditional sticky rice cake) pounding contest; Traditional costume performance contest.
In addition, there will be traditional ethnic sports like tug-of-war, stick pushing, crossbow shooting, and top spinning; folk games such as “nem con” (throwing a fabric ball through a ring), “nem pao” (throwing cloth balls), blindfolded drum beating, blindfolded duck catching, stilt walking, and sack racing; as well as weekly Saturday folk dance activities.
The experiential tours promise to offer visitors many exciting experiences.
The festival will also feature experiential tours such as mountain climbing, exploring natural landscapes, and visiting cultural attractions. Notable options include: Vong Lua Sang Nhu check-in tour; experiencing traditional costume performances of the Mong people; visiting the Corn House, Mo De bamboo forest, and the lonely Rock of Kim Nọi. Trail and trekking tours that combine cultural immersion with scenic hiking routes, offering unique paths for visitors to explore local culture, art, nature, and cuisine; visiting traditional markets. These programs promise not only to satisfy the adventurous spirit of travelers but also to celebrate and showcase the rich cultural identity of the local ethnic communities.
All activities under the Golden Season Festival aim to honor the value of the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Fields Scenic Site, recognized as a Special National Monument, as well as three national intangible cultural heritages: The Panpipe Performance Art of the Mong People, The New Rice Celebration of the Mong People, and The Wax-Resist Fabric Patterning Art of the Mong People. In addition, the festival will highlight traditional local celebrations, creating a high-quality, distinctive, and authentic tourism product chain built on the principles of uniqueness, novelty, attractiveness, and friendliness.
