Lao Cai is a border highland province, located in the Northwestern of Vietnam; it is 296km by railway and 265km by road from Hanoi. Lao Cai borders Ha Giang province in the East, Yen Bai province in the South, Lai Chau province in the West, and Yunnan province in the North with 203 km borderline. More than 10,000 years ago, human had appeared in Lao Cai.

There are 5 highway lines running through the province (4, 4D, 4E, 279, 70) with total length of 451km; 10 provincial road lines with the length of nearly 500km and nearly 4.500 km of inter – commune and hamlet roads. Specially, highway line from Noi Bai – Lao Cai with the length of 264km has been being executed that will shorten the running time between Hanoi – Lao Cai about more 3 hours. Thisline is connected to the highway line Con Minh – Ha Khau (China) through Kim Thanh bridge, then creates unobstructed connection joints for Con Minh–Lao Cai
