National strong teams boxing championship 2026 opens in Lao Cai
LCP - The opening ceremony of the National Strong Teams Boxing Championship 2026 was held on the evening of May 9 at the Lao Cai Provincial Sports Arena. The event is jointly organized by the Vietnam Boxing Federation and the Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The tournament brought together 312 outstanding athletes from 26 participating teams.
This year’s tournament gathers 312 outstanding athletes from 26 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide, competing in two age groups: 17 - 18 and 19 - 40. The championship is considered one of the country’s key boxing events, featuring many of Vietnam’s top fighters and promising high-quality matches.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, representatives of Lao Cai province emphasized that hosting the tournament is both an honor and an opportunity to showcase the province’s organizational capacity, cultural identity, and tourism potential to visitors from across the country.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Boxing Federation, delivered the opening speech at the tournament.

The organizing committee presented commemorative flags to participating teams.
According to the Vietnam Boxing Federation, the tournament plays an important role in evaluating training quality at localities and selecting athletes for the national team, especially in preparation for the upcoming National Sports Games.

Athletes will compete in 53 weight categories for men and women under a direct knockout format. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on May 17, 2026.
