Lao Cai welcomed nearly 780,000 visitors during the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo 2026
LCP - During the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Horse 2026 (from February 14th to February 22nd, 2026), tourism activities in Lao Cai Province were vibrant, safe, and effective. The province welcomed 779,300 visitors, an increase of over 35% compared to the same period last year; total revenue from tourism reached 1,667 billion VND.

The 9-day holiday, coupled with favorable weather and numerous unique cultural activities and festivals held simultaneously in various localities, attracted a large number of tourists for sightseeing, relaxation, and experiences. This included 724,700 domestic visitors and 54,600 international visitors; 523,600 were day-trippers and 255,700 were overnight guests.

Key tourist destinations continued to demonstrate strong appeal, such as: Sa Pa with 215,000 visitors; Bao Ha commune with 230,000; Lao Cai ward with 97,000; Dong Cuong commune with 100,000; Bac Ha commune with 58,000; Yen Binh commune with 23,000; Yen Bai ward with 13,500; Tu Le commune with 12,000; Nghia Lo with 8,000; Mu Cang Chai commune with 8,300; and Hanh Phuc commune with 3,500.

Hotel occupancy rates across the province are estimated at 75-80%; specifically in Sa Pa, it reached 95-100%, Hanh Phuc commune 85-90%, and Mu Cang Chai commune 80-85%. Accommodation establishments in the 3-5 star segment achieved over 90% occupancy during peak days from the 2nd to the 4th of Tet (Lunar New Year).

Previously, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism proactively issued directives and coordinated with relevant departments, agencies, and localities to implement comprehensive management solutions and improve service quality; maintaining a hotline at 0813.667.667 to provide timely support to tourists. Throughout the province, over 102 cultural, sports, and tourism activities and events were organized to serve the people and tourists.

Notable examples include the special art program "Lao Cai - Celebrating the Party and the Spring Festival of the Year of the Horse 2026"; the Spring Festival at the Heaven's Gate and the Gau Tao Festival in Sa Pa ; the horse racing and Spring Festival in Bac Ha commune; the art photography exhibition "Colors of Mu Cang Chai"; and many cultural activities and folk games in various localities.

State management of tourism has been strengthened; businesses generally comply strictly with regulations on price listing, ensuring security and order, food safety and environmental hygiene, contributing to promoting the image of Lao Cai as a friendly and attractive destination, creating positive momentum for tourism development in 2026.
