Impressions and Cultural Identity of the Opening Ceremony of the Mong Khen Festival, To Day Flower Festival 2026
LCP - On the evening of January 3, 2026, Mu Cang Chai commune held the opening ceremony of the Mong Khen Festival, To Day Flower Festival, along with spring celebration activities for 2026.
This is a significant and practical cultural - tourism event oriented toward the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to further promote and introduce the potential, strengths, natural beauty, and distinctive cultural identity of the land of Mu Cang Chai to visitors and friends from both inside and outside the province.
Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Hoang Giang, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee; members of the Provincial Party Executive Committee; leaders of provincial departments, agencies, and mass organizations; representatives of several communes and wards in the province, as well as communes: Than Uyen (Lai Chau province) and Muong La (Son La province).

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Ngoc Hiep, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Mu Cang Chai Commune emphasized that the Mong Khen Festival, To Day Flower Festival 2026 continues to be organized on an increasingly expanded scale with rich and diverse content. The festival inherits the results and organizational experience from the period when Mu Cang Chai was a district, while being implemented in the direction of close linkage and coordination among communes in the Mu Cang Chai area. This aims to honor ethnic cultural heritage values and create a unified cultural - tourism space for the entire region.

In the context of implementing the two-tier local government model, Mu Cang Chai commune has clearly identified tourism development as a key and long-term task. This task must be carried out based on inheriting the orientations of the former district-level authority, while strengthening linkage and coordination among clusters of communes in the area to comprehensively promote shared potential and advantages, and to develop distinctive and sustainable tourism products in the new period.
At the opening ceremony, following the impressive opening performance entitled “Joy in the Festival Day” and the presentation of the decision by the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism recognizing Garrya Mu Cang Chai Resort as meeting five-star standards, delegates, local people, and visitors entered a brilliant artistic space imbued with vibrant cultural colors and the natural essence of the mountains and forests through the art program themed “Dance of the Khen and Flowers.”

With the participation of Meritorious Artist Ploong Thiet; singer Hong Hanh; singers from the Lao Cai Provincial Youth Art Troupe; 200 local cultural performers from Mu Cang Chai commune; and 500 students from Mu Cang Chai High School, the art program consisted of three chapters: Chapter I: “Harmonious Sounds and Colors”; Chapter II: “Sharing the Joy of the Festival Season”; Chapter III: “Rhythms of the Highlands”.
At the conclusion of the program, following a vibrant and impressive mass performance by 500 students of Mu Cang Chai High School themed “Dance of the Khen and Flowers,” the sky over Mu Cang Chai was illuminated by a spectacular fireworks display. This helped delegates, visitors, and local people alike feel the breath and rhythm of spring spreading throughout the mountainous homeland.
