The tournament is a unique cultural and sporting event aimed at preserving and promoting the National Intangible Cultural Heritage of highland ethnic communities, while introducing the image of Bac Ha and its people to domestic and international visitors.

Qualifying races will begin at 8:30 AM on May 23, while the finals will start at 8:00 AM on May 24 at the Central Stadium of Bac Ha Commune. Riders will compete in knockout rounds from the qualifiers to the final race.

One of the biggest attractions this year is the prize structure, with total awards worth up to VND 110 million. The champion will receive a cup, certificate, and VND 50 million.

To ensure professional quality, first-time riders must pass a preliminary test on May 16, completing a 1,900-meter course in under 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

Participants must be Vietnamese citizens aged 18 or older and meet health requirements. Competing horses must be male horses with full vaccination and quarantine certification. Riders are also required to wear traditional costumes, helmets, and sports shoes during the races.

With careful preparation and the unique appeal of this traditional highland sport, the 19th Expanded Bac Ha Traditional Horse Racing Tournament is expected to deliver thrilling competitions and further promote the cultural beauty of Vietnam’s Northwest highlands.
